Poetry & Pie
Poets James Crews, Dede Cummings, and Mary Kane will be reading from 2:00 to 3:00 pm and there will be a community poetry open mic from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. In addition, there will be a wide variety of sweet and savory pies, pencil favors, and poet Taylor Katz will be composing bespoke poems for a sliding scale fee of $10 to $25.
It's going to be an amazing day in a beautiful setting with delicious treats. We hope you can join us. Admission is $6 at the door and includes pie and a souvenir pencil.
Vermont Book Award

The Vermont Book Award is a $5,000 literary prize created by Vermont College of Fine Arts to celebrate the literature of Vermont. To qualify, a book must be a work of outstanding literary merit by a Vermont writer. The winner will be announced at The Vermont Book Award Gala on Saturday, September 23 in Montpelier, Vermont. We hope to see you there!

The Canaan Meetinghouse Readings are every Thursday in July at 7:30 pm in Canaan, New Hampshire. Authors in this year's reading series include Cynthia Huntington, Rick Moody, James Wright, Megan Abbott, April Ossman, Victoria Redel, Major Jackson, and Alexander Chee.
The Frost Place's 40th Anniversary Celebration takes place from July 21 to July 23 with a series of poetry readings from Nikki Finney, Charles Simic, Diana Delgado, Gerardo Pacheco Matus, William Palomo, Charif Shanahan, and Javier Zamora.
Bill Roorbach will be reading from his new short story collection, The Girl of the Lake, at the Northshire Bookstore on Friday, July 14, at 7:00 pm.
Poet Ilya Kaminsky will be reading at The Vermont Studio Center on Wednesday, July 26, from 8:00 to 9:00 pm in Johnson, Vermont.
"Poets in the Park" will take place every Thursday in July at 5:45 pm at Prescott Park in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Bookstock takes place July 28 to 30 in Woodstock, Vermont, with a wide range of readings and workshops. Writers include Jorie Graham, Molly Peacock and Paul Muldoon and local favorites Joni Cole, April Ossman, Elizabeth Powell, and Bill Schubart. The Tory Hill Authors Series begins in July at the Warner Town Hall in Warner, New Hampshire. There are four Saturday events: July 8, July 22, August 5, and August 19. This year's authors are Anita Diamant, Mary Azarian, Gwen Florio, Paul Doiron and Kristen Lindquist.

Calls for Submission and Upcoming Deadlines
The Green Mountain Writers Conference (July 24 to July 28, in Chittenden, Vermont) has discounted registration rates if you register before July 15. For more information, please visit their Registration page.

Registration is still for the Writers in the Round Songwriters and Poets Retreat, September 7 to 10, on Star Island, New Hampshire. This is a time for stretching boundaries, cross genre inspiration, and fresh salt air. We welcome all levels of artistry for daily classes, structured and unstructured time for composition and collaboration, small group workshops, and nightly song and poetry swaps. The program fee is $110. Room and board rates ($424 to $734) include lodging, meal, and ferry transportation from Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
